About Douglas

As you probably know by now, my name is Douglas Keeley. I was born in Dublin in 1978. I could tell you about how I studied in a College of Art for five years. Or that my paintings are hanging in galleries in New York, Paris, Rome, London, or even just Dublin. But, my friends, no—not yet anyway!

I have done none of this, having studied Art only in secondary school for three years. Fate brought me on a different path, leaving Art behind to persue a career as an electrician. But I would always find myself looking at and being inspired by Art and my passion for it never left me. It just took some inspiration and a little patience to get me fully hooked on Art once again after nearly ten years apart.

My inspiration came from my partner Jeannette, who I painted a picture of Betty Boop for in August 2004, just after we met. I fell in love with Art and painting once again. It came as a surprise to me, and the response from family and friends was overwhelming. So, I dabbled in painting once more and the responses were still great. I got even more hooked, and paintings were just flying onto canvasses. With more confidence came more elaborate paintings (but I'll let you be the judge of that yourself).

I paint at home, not for want of a studio, but rather that I think it's more personal to paint a picture of someone where I can see it in every stage. I feel I grow with the painting and that I can see where it takes me. Each one is like a journey, some I love, others test me but as the old saying goes "what gets you down will only make you stronger in the end".

Inspired by life, love, people, the wonderful world we live in, my family, my children and my loved ones; and by artists like Dali, Magritte, Francis Bacon, Escher, Gregory Keeley, Kurt Cobain and many many Irish artists; I strive to be the best I can be.

But I'll let you decide for yourself what you think.

Signed, Douglas Keeley
